On Friday, the City Council in occupied Jerusalem, in the West Bank, forced a Palestinian to demolish his home in Jabal Al-Mokabber town.
The Palestinian, Ehab Khalayla, said he was forced to demolish his home after receiving a final order a week earlier despite all legal efforts to save the property.
Khalayla added that he built his home in 2017 before an Israeli court issued a 70.000 Shekels fine, which he paid; however, he received a final demolition order without granting him a legal option to license the home or at least freeze the demolition order.
He also said that he had to self-demolish the property to avoid excessive fines and fees, especially if the City Council used its workers and equipment to destroy the property.

All of Israel’s colonies in the occupied West Bank, including those in and around occupied East Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention in addition to various United Nations and Security Council resolutions. They also constitute war crimes under International Law.
Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” It also prohibits the “individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory”.
